June 7, 1994 - Stone Temple Pilots and Interstate Love Song

Two months after my last release a new band makes a brief appearance in my library when Stone Temple Pilots released their second album "Purple" on June 7, 1994. I only have one song by these guys, but who are the Stone Temple Pilots? They were a 4-piece grunge/rock band from San Diego, California consisting of Scott Weiland (lead vocals), Eric Kretz (drums, percussion) and brothers Dean (guitars) and Robert DeLeo (bass). "Purple" was their big breakthrough album with several succesful singles, but I only have one of them, the very popular "Interstate Love Song". It starts off quietly but they quickly turn into a loud main riff led by some catchy guitar from Dean. Weiland starts the first verse and he has a perfect post-grunge/Eddie Vedder-ish voice as he sings a solid verse overtop the catchy music. Things flow right into a similar chorus and Weilqmd continues to lead the way. They crash nicely into the next verse and after another chorus the song is over! It seems like they could've added a cool solo or something,  but a couple times through the main riff is enough I guess and that's the last we'll hear from Stone Temple Pilots.
