October 31, 2000 - Lifehouse and Hanging By A Moment

On the same day as my last release a new band briefly joins my library when Lifehouse released their debut album "No Name Face" on October 31, 2000. But who are Lifehouse? They are a three-piece alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California consisting of drummer Jon Palmer, bassist Sergio Andrade and lead singer/guitarist Jason Wade. I'm not a big Lifehouse fan at all, but the lead single on this album is a good one and it would become so popular that it would actually end up being the most played song on the radio in the U.S. for the whole year of 2001. That's pretty impressive, and that single is called "Hanging By A Moment". Andrade plays some simple, but very catchy and cool bass to keep the pace and Wade plays a nice light guitar riff overtop before he comes in to sing and he sounds almost like a Scott Stapp copycat with another very post-grunge sound. Things are quiet but catchy enough to start bit when they finally reach the chorus things explode into a way louder and much better riff. Wade sounds way better when he's yelling loudly in the chorus and how could you not headbang along to this? It's pretty damn catchy and I'm starting to see why it was so well liked by so many. Wade plays some cool guitar in a solid new part after the chorus, then they hit reset and do it all again, and why not with such a catchy formula? Alas, this is all the Lifehouse I have, it's a cool song for sure though!

June 15, 1999 - The Album Leaf and An Orchestrated Rise To Fall

A week after my last release a new band joins my library when The Album Leaf released their debut album "An Orchestrated Rise To Fall" on June 15, 1999. But who is The Album Leaf? Well, it's just one guy! The Album Leaf is a post-rock project of Jimmy LaValle, from San Diego, California, and he plays acoustic guitar, several different keyboards and also uses lots of electronics, including electronic drums. Let's check out some mellow post-rock! The album begins with "Wander" and it lays the foundation for a typical Album Leaf song with some trippy synths in the background, a light electronic drum beat and some space-y piano that combine for a light and trippy riff. After a bit the speed of the drums picks up and things shift into a faster new riff led by lots of different synths that sound fairly trippy. July 10, 2000 - Coldplay and Parachutes

Six days after my last release a new band joins my library when Coldplay released their debut album "Parachutes" on July 10, 2000. But who are Coldplay? They are a four-piece pop-rock band from London, England consisting of Will Champion (drums, percussion), Guy Berryman (bass), Jonny Buckland (electric guitar) and frontman Chris Martin (lead vocals, keyboards, acoustic guitar). Coldplay have all the components of a rock band, but they play a very light and pop-y style of rock that is very accessible and radio-friendly. Let's see what Coldplay is all about! The album begins with the short song "Don't Panic" and Martin plays a light acoustic guitar riff to drive things and then sings his first verse as we get our first taste of Martin singing.
