March 26, 2002 - The Scorpion King Soundtrack and To Whom It May Concern

On the same day as my last release and a mere four months since "Weathered", The Scorpion King Soundtrack was released and it contained a B-side by Creed titled "To Whom It May Concern". This definitely could have made their last album as it's driven by a smooth and catchy main riff by Mark Tremonti. Scott Stapp sings a solid slow verse overtop and for a bit things are quiet but solid. Then they turn up the heaviness with some nice hard rock stuff and proceed to play a much louder chorus that sounds pretty good. I'm really surprised this was a B-side, I think it could have been a single, which is why I guess they released it on this Soundtrack. This is the last we'll hear from Creed for a while!

October 22, 1998 - The Dillinger Escape Plan and Under The Running Board

Eight days after my last release a new band joins my library when The Dillinger Escape Plan released their EP "Under The Running Board" on October 22, 1998. But who is The Dillinger Escape Plan? They are a five-piece metal band from Morris Plains, New Jersey and these guys are branching out into some new territory with their style being called either metalcore or mathcore. They consist of bassist Adam Doll, drummer Chris Pennie, rhythm guitarist John Fulton, lead guitarist Ben Weinman and lead singer Dimitri Minakakis. Dillinger don't sound like any other band at this time and it's hard to describe their chaotic style. Let's give them a listen! The EP opens with a short song called "The Mullet Burden" and it's a perfect introduction as to what Dillinger is all about: super frantic, chaotic and unpredictable riffs and some high, in your face screaming from Minakakis. November 16, 1999 - Issues

Two weeks after my last release and just 15 months after "Follow The Leader", Korn released their fourth album "Issues" on November 16, 1999. Now firmly in the mainstream Korn continue to play nu-metal, but after their last album featured several other guest artists and a more radio-friendly vibe at times, this album sees Korn going back to their roots and it's heaviness is compared to their debut album. I like the sound of that, let's see what the new Korn is all about! The album begins with a short song called "Dead" and we hear Jonathan Davis play his bagpipes in a strange but very Korn opener. Davis sings a quiet verse overtop and things die a little after a minute in. Up next is the album's biggest single "Falling Away From Me" and one of Munky or Head plays some slow, creepy, and very Korn-sounding guitar.
