November 15, 2001 - Gary Jules and Mad World

Nine days after my last release a new artist briefly joins my library when Gary Jules released his second album "Trading Snakeoil For Wolftickets" on November 15, 2001. But who is Gary Jules? He is a singer/guitarist from Fresno, California and like a lot of people I only have one song by him in my library: the wildly succesful Tears For Fears cover of the song "Mad World". There's a slow and sad piano riff that leads the way and Jules sings a soft verse overtop in a decent voice that is unique but not that all that flashy honestly. When the cello joins in things sound even darker and more depressing and it's the epic, dark music that makes this such a memorable song for me. It's a worthy addition to the library for sure, but also certainly a one hit wonder.

Well, it's just one guy! The album begins with "Wander" and it lays the foundation for a typical Album Leaf song with some trippy synths in the background, a light electronic drum beat and some space-y piano that combine for a light and trippy riff. July 10, 2000 - Coldplay and Parachutes

Six days after my last release a new band joins my library when Coldplay released their debut album "Parachutes" on July 10, 2000. But who are Coldplay? They are a four-piece pop-rock band from London, England consisting of Will Champion (drums, percussion), Guy Berryman (bass), Jonny Buckland (electric guitar) and frontman Chris Martin (lead vocals, keyboards, acoustic guitar). Coldplay have all the components of a rock band, but they play a very light and pop-y style of rock that is very accessible and radio-friendly. Let's see what Coldplay is all about! The album begins with the short song "Don't Panic" and Martin plays a light acoustic guitar riff to drive things and then sings his first verse as we get our first taste of Martin singing. He has a high, pretty pop-y voice, but it's very smooth and solid. Buckland adds some decent light electric guitar as well and this is a pretty good soft intro into what Coldplay are all about. October 10, 2000 - Blender

It's a double release day! On the same day as my last release and a year and eight months since "Dosage", Collective Soul released their fifth album "Blender" on October 10, 2000. Collective Soul continue to play the same style of pop-rock but they've gone down and up throughout their career so far, and their last album was solid. Does that mean we're headed back down? Let's give it a listen and find out! The album kicks off with "Skin" and it's got a light and pop-y main riff that is pretty catchy with Ross Childress playing some decent guitar to lead the way. Ed Roland sings a solid verse in his usual pop-y voice  and I'm a little surprised this wasn't a single with it's very pop-y and accessible music. There's a super catchy "ba-dup ba-dup" vocal part that I'm describing terribly, but this seems like a great choice to open the album; it's a little repetitive, but still solid. Up next is "Vent...
