September 11, 2001 - P.O.D. and Satellite
A week after my last release a new band briefly joins my library when P.O.D. released their fourth album "Satellite" on September 11, 2001. But who is P.O.D.? They are a four-piece Christian nu metal band from San Diego, California consisting of lead singer Sonny Sandoval, guitarist Marcos Curiel, bassist Traa Daniels and drummer Wuv Bernardo. I'm not a big P.O.D. fan, but I do have two songs of theirs, and they were both pretty succesful singles off this album. The first one is called "Alive" and it's driven by a catchy and decently heavy guitar riff by Curiel. Sandoval half raps/half sings and he sounds solid in the verse and also pretty solid in the catchy chorus. Things are not too loud or too crazy, but it's solid and pretty catchy. They quiet things down in a bit of an anticlimactic part, then it's right back to the catchy verse and chorus. A decent song worthy of making it, but nothing too amazing. The only other song I have is "Boom" and Curiel leads the way with another catchy guitar riff that is fast-paced and pretty cool. Sandoval raps a solid verse overtop and the chorus hits nice and hard as he yells "boom! Here comes the Boom! Ready or not." and it's another pretty damn catchy chorus, and much more upbeat than the last one! After a couple cool rounds they quiet things down again, but it works better here as they then nicely explode into a nice loud new riff and from here they wrap things up with a final catchy chorus. A pretty cool song, but the last of P.O.D. for me!
