July 20, 1999 - Powerman 5000 and When Worlds Collide

Five days after my last release a new band joins my library when Powerman 5000 released their second album "Tonight The Stars Revolt!" on July 20, 1999. I'm not a big fan of theirs, but who is Powerman 5000? They are a five-piece nu-metal band from Boston, Massachusetts fronted by the younger brother of Rob Zombie, who goes by the name Spider One. Joining him is drummer Al 3, bassist Dorian 27 and guitarists Adam 12 and M.33. Powerman 5000 play a mix of industrial and nu-metal and although i'm really not a big fan of theirs I do have one of the two singles off the album, the hit song "When Worlds Collide". Spider One sounds a lot like his brother as he sings in a low voice in the verse overtop some interesting industrial music. The chorus is heavy and pretty damn catchy and it's definitely a good hook. That pretty much sums up this whole short song as they just repeat the verse and chorus a few more times. It's undeniably pretty catchy and Powerman 5000 aren't even  one hit wonder, as we will hear from them again after the turn of the century!
