April 13, 1999 - Staind and Mudshovel
Nine days after my last release a new band joins my library when Staind released their second album "Dysfunction" on April 13, 1999. But who is Staind? They are a four-piece alternative metal band from Springfield, Massachusetts consisting of lead singer Aaron Lewis, guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist Johnny April and drummer Jon Wysocki. I only have one song off this album, but it was a fairly succesful single titled "Mudshovel". April plays a pretty cool bass riff to start us off and Lewis sings overtop in his typical post-grunge voice that sounds alright. The guitar riff is pretty cool as well and that makes for a pretty nice and catchy main riff. The chorus is nice and heavy and also pretty catchy and this is a pretty good single! They hit reset and do it all from the beginning again, but things sound good enough to me that I don't mind a second go through. It's definitely a worthy addition to the library, I just wish Staind was this heavy all the time!
