October 14, 1997 - Green Day and Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)

Three weeks after my last release a new band joins my library when Green Day released their fifth album "Nimrod" on October 14, 1997. I'm not a big Green Day fan, but who are they? They are a 3-piece punk rock band from San Francisco, California consisting of drummer Tré Cool, bassist Mike Dirnt and lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong. I only have one song off this album, the megahit "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)". It's led by a catchy acoustic guitar riff, but what's great is you can hear Armstrong mess up the opening and say "fuck" before he finally gets it right. Once he's going it's a really catchy verse and he sings nicely overtop to match the mood. After the first verse alone, Armstrong is joined by a strings section and it sounds pretty good, making this light song sound fairly epic. It's a short little tune, but it's undeniably catchy and a solid song.
