December 23, 1997 - Blindside and Invert

A month after my last release, a new band joins my library when Blindside released their debut album "Blindside" on December 23, 1997. But who is Blindside? They are a four-piece Christian metal band from Stockholm, Sweden consisting of lead singer Christian Lindskog, guitarist Simon Grenehed, bassist Tomas Näslund and drummer Marcus Dahlström. Blindside play a pretty heavy style of metal, but I have only one song off this album, the first track "Invert". It's got some pretty cool and pretty heavy guitars throughout, but Lindskog's harsh, heavy singing that isn't quite a scream but is pretty close sounds pretty sweet as well. Most of their songs are not this heavy, but what a way to kick off your debut album! This one is a banger for sure and a worthy addition to the library. This is also my last release of the 1997 and so begins the year-end wrap-up! Only ten albums this year is down from recent years so I will only be doing a top 5, but there was still some cool music this year!

Favourite song of the year: This is actually a tough call this year, as there isn't one song that jumps out as the clear frontrunner. There were some cool songs on "Kill, I Oughtta" and "Something Wild", but I think my song of the year will be Deftones "Lotion" which was a pretty heavy and pretty sweet song.

Top 5 Albums of the Year

1. Around The Fur by Deftones
2. Something Wild by Children Of Bodom
3. Clumsy by Our Lady Peace
4. Transmission by The Tea Party
5. The Colour And The Shape by Foo Fighters
Shout out to the EP "Kill, I Oughtta" by Mudvayne

The top two albums were both solid metal albums, and the rest of the top 5 was cool as well, but 1997 was kind of a down year. What will 1998 have in store? I look forward to finding out!
