November 26, 1996 - The Aeroplane Flies High and The Aeroplane Flies High
Two weeks after my last release and a year since "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness", The Smashing Pumpkins released a box set called "The Aeroplane Flies High" on November 26, 1996. This is a massive box set filled with B-sides from the sessions from their last album, but I only have one of them, the title track "The Aeroplane Flies High". They move right into a slow main riff and we hear Billy Corgan talking overtop. He ends with "the aeroplane flies high. Turns left, looks right" and then they snap nicely into a heavier version of the same riff with some nice heavy guitars and drum from Jimmy Chamberlin. Billy leads a soft and elic verse and the chorus is nice and loud and hard not to sing along to. They repeat this long process in a nice progressive way and by the third time there is some cool soloing happening in the chorus. This turns into an all-out guitar solo and it's a pretty epic and awesome one that fits the mood perfectly. The ending is a little weird but this was still a pretty awesome song, imagine if it were on Mellon Collie!
