October 2, 1995 - Oasis and (What's The Story) Morning Glory?
On the same day as my last release a new band joins my library when Oasis released their second album "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" on October 2, 1995. I'm not a big Oasis fan and only have two songs off this album, but they were both hugely succesful singles. But who is Oasis? They are a five-piece rock band from Manchester, England and four of the five original members are on this album with the only new member being drummer Alan White. He's joined by bassist Paul McGuigan, rhythm guitarist Paul Arthurs, lead guitarist Noel Gallagher and his brother, lead singer Liam Gallagher. This album would launch Oasis into superstardom, with six singles released and it's one of the best-selling albums of all time! Let's check out the two singles that made my library, starting with the mega hit "Wonderwall". Noel plays a pretty catchy acoustic guitar riff that drives the song and Liam has a very distinctive voice that isn't my favourite but it fits the mood of this song really nicely. The strings add to the epicness of things and the chorus is really hard not to sing along to and it's no wonder (get it?) that this song was a huge single, it's hard not to like this breezy song. The other song I have off this album is "Champagne Supernova" and it's another breezy song that was unsurprisingly a successful single. I love when Liam sings "where were you while we were getting high?" and Oasis do a pretty good prog-y job of making this song just increase in awesomeness as it goes on. Strings, keyboards and eventually some cool louder guitars make things pretty rockin' by the midway point of this seven and a half minute song. They slow it down again for the finish but this was a cool song for sure. That's it for Oasis for a while, but we will hear from them again!
