September 3, 1990 - Painkiller and Painkiller
Two weeks after my last release and a very long 8 years since their last appearance in my timeline, Judas Priest show up for the second and final time in my library when they released their twelfth album "Painkiller" on September 3, 1990, of which I have only the title track. Their only line-up change since "Screaming For Vengeance" in 1982 is new drummer Scott Travis replacing Dave Holland and while I'm still not a big Judas Priest fan, the song "Painkiller" is one hell of a crazy metal song. Travis shows off his talents right away by opening the song with a pretty sweet little drum solo before guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing very nicely join in to form an epic and awesome riff. Rob Halford is almost shrieking this whole song as he sings in a really high voice that isn't my favourite, but he hits some pretty high notes while singing overtop the epic main riff. There's a really epic intro to the solo that keeps getting faster and faster and it leads perfectly into one fucking amazing solo. It has several awesome parts and goes on for a couple minutes as both Tipton and Downing play some great guitar. After a final verse and a chorus they go back to the cool building part again before playing several choruses. This leads into a shorter but still excellent guitar solo and to cap it all off is an amazing closing. Travis begins with a slow drum fill just as Halford sings the final "er" in "Painkiller" and he slowly increases his speed every fill, eventually just going to town on his drums; all while Halford holds that note for what feels like an eternity! This song was fucking sweet from start to finish and for a finale to Judas Priest in my library, I could think of no better end!
