October 2, 1989 - Neil Young and Rockin' In The Free World
A month after my last release a new artist briefly joins my library when Neil Young released his 17th album "Freedom" on October 2, 1989, of which I have just the one song by Neil, the hit single "Rockin' In The Free World". But who is Neil Young? He was born Novemeber 12, 1945 in Toronto, Ontario and has had a very long and succesful career dating back to the 1960s. I'm obviously not a big Neil Young fan since this is my only song by him, but I do respect him and I do like this one rock anthem that reignited Young's career. It's driven by a pretty simple but nice and catchy guitar riff and Neil begins the first verse in his very recognizable and unique voice. It's a pretty catchy verse and it leads right into a very repetitive chorus that is just the name of the song sung several times over, though I'm sure it sounded great with a live audience all belting it out. They roll through another verse and chorus before Young goes off for a solid guitar solo. After the solo the guitar falls away briefly as they begin another verse, but it returns quickly and they play a final verse and chorus. Neil ends the song with another guitar solo that sounds similar to the first one but the song fades out when he's still playing! Boooo! Let the man finish!
