May 22, 1989 - The Miracle and I Want It All

A month after my last release and a long three years since their last album "A Kind Of Magic", Queen released their thirteenth studio album "The Miracle" on May 22, 1989. Like most of Queen's 80s material, I'm not a big fan of most of it but this album produced one more song that makes my library, the hit single "I Want It All". Brian May delivers an early guitar solo that sounds pretty sweet before they settle into a lighter main riff. John Deacon keeps the pace with some acoustic guitar and Freddie Mercury begins to sing the first verse and he sounds pretty great as usual. May comes in and out with bits of cool electric guitar in this pretty catchy verse and the chorus is also pretty damn catchy as Mercury sings the name of the song louder and louder and finishes with "and I want it now". They play another solid verse and in the next chorus the rest of the band sing backing vocals and allow Mercury to ramble and add a bit of an edge to things. Mercury plays a cool keyboard riff in a short bridge that brings us to an extended guitar "solo". Mercury continues to yell and wail the name of the song, but it's basically a lengthy solo for May and he does a pretty good job with a cool fast-paced solo. They pick things up right at the end of the verse and move into a final chorus before ending the song on a nice epic note with some final cool guitar from May.

This is actually the last time we will hear Queen in my music library. They did have one more album but I have no songs off of it and that would be Queen's final studio record due to the death of Freddie Mercury from AIDS. Mercury's death is very sad as he certainly died way too young. He was an absolutely one of a kind singer and I will remember Queen not for their poor 80s form, but for their awesome run of albums in the 70s. It's been a fun ride Queen!
