July 27, 1979 - Highway To Hell and Highway To Hell
Almost two months since my last release another single song enters my library as the title track is the only song I have off ACDC's sixth album "Highway To Hell", released on July 27, 1979. Original bassist Mark Evans was replaced on their last album and newcomer Cliff Williams is the bassist again on this one. ACDC continue to become more and more popular, though aside from the title track I don't see what all the fuss is about. Malcolm Young drives the song with a simple but solid guitar riff as Phil Rudd plays some really simple drums. Bon Scott's vocals still sound pretty good and the lyrics of this song were written about the group's tour the previous year, which Angus Young said was like a highway to hell. The chorus is just the name of the song repeated four times and the guitars are very basic as well in what is really not the greatest chorus. The verse sounds much better as Scott sings nicely along and although I find it pretty basic, it's easy to see why this song was very popular. After another boring chorus Angus takes off for a decent guitar solo but not a really great one. This leads right into the chorus as they jam it out several times over with Scott rambling overtop. Scott and Angus do end the song on a pretty cool note but if this is the best ACDC have to offer then I don't need to hear anything else.
