August 18, 1978 - Who Are You and Who Are You

Another two months has passed, and another single song enters my library on August 18, 1978 when The Who released their eighth album "Who Are You" of which I have only the title track. It's the same Who that's been around for a long time now but this will be my third and final song by them in my library.
This was a single when first released but my younger generation also know it as the theme song to the hit TV show CSI. That's actually where I first heard it, but they don't play anywhere near the whole six-plus minute song. Pete Townshend plays some nice guitar in the opening as John Entwistle keeps the pace with some pretty great bass. Keith Moon enters with some speedy cymbals and Townshend sings the "whoooo are you? Who who who who". Daltrey's lead vocals in the verse sound much better as I think he sounds great on this song. The rest of the guys play a nice backing riff and this moves into the chorus with Townshend continuing his high part. Daltrey spices up the chorus with a different delivery every time and things are sounding pretty great! Moon's drumming in the verse is pretty good and Daltrey continues to carry the song with his solid voice. Things quiet down as Entwistle plays some trippy synths in this new part while Townshend plays some very fast acoustic that sounds great. It comes thundering back in as Daltrey let's out a long "who are you" before it quiets down again. Townshend sings some light backing vocals in this part as we hear some cool piano leading the way. The piano continues into another chorus and it and the guitar together sound pretty great together! They play a final solid verse and jam out the chorus one last time as they tie it all together with a nice ending. This was definitely a cool song and one I'm happy to have included. This will be the last we will hear of The Who though, but don't worry there's still one more single to go!
