April 22, 1978 - Magazine and Heartless

Twelve days after my last release, and a year after "Little Queen" Heart released their third album "Magazine" on April 22, 1978, of which I have only the first song "Heartless". Heart continues to make at least one hit single per album with this one certainly being another huge hit. Mike DeRosier's drums are pretty solid as they open it slowly before settling into the main riff. Roger Fisher leads the way with a cool guitar riff as Ann Wilson begins the first verse and her voice sounds as good as always, hitting lots of high notes. The chorus is very catchy indeed as Ann continues to sing nicely throughout. It gets quiet briefly, but a drum roll takes us to the next catchy verse which has come nice piano by Howard Leese. After another chorus Steve Fossen's bass leads a new section with a nice beat as Ann and Nancy Wilson ooh along. Leese plays some cool keyboards in this slow part and Fisher gets a chance to play a very short solo before they return for a final chorus. After this last chorus they continue to jam out the main riff for another minute or so and it has some more cool piano by Leese as they end it on a nice note. This is a cool song for sure, but it's also the last song we will hear by Heart in my library. They had a few solid songs for sure but their run of hit singles has finally come to an end. Don't worry though, there's more hit singles coming your way!
