March 21, 1977 - Let There Be Rock

About two weeks since my last release, and a short 6 months after "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", AC/DC released their fourth album "Let There Be Rock" on March 21, 1977, of which I have only the title track. Although AC/DC were doing very well in Europe and their native Australia, they were actually dropped by their American record label after poor sales in the U.S. of "Dirty Deeds". That's pretty incredible considering how big their success would eventually be there. I continue to not like most AC/DC songs, but they did come up with one more good one I think, the title track "Let There Be Rock". It's main riff is a simple guitar and bass riff and then bass and drums set the stage for Bon Scott. He delivers the verse by himself and I must admit he sounds pretty great on this song. He rambles on about rock and sets the stage for Angus Young. He goes off for his first guitar solo of the song and it's pretty damn good! They return to the main simple riff and Scott gets another verse to ramble on. They repeat the same formula and Young's solo is pretty good, but not as good as his first I thought. No worries though, because he gets a third solo, and it's his best yet! It really is a fantastic solo as he absolutely shreds his guitar to pieces by the end of it. It all caps off with a 25-second rock and roll flourish that sounds pretty awesome. I think this is easily my favourite AC/DC song so far! Lots of cool solos in this one and it wasn't a basic structure, nicely done!
