December 8, 1976 - The Eagles and Hotel California
It's been a couple months since my last release but on December 8, 1976 a new band briefly joins my library as the Eagles released their fifth album "Hotel California" of which I have only the title track. This album would go on to be one of the best-selling of all time, but I am not a big fan of the Eagles as this song is my only one by them in my library. But who are the Eagles? They were originally a 4-piece but are a 5-piece on this album as these rockers hail from Los Angeles. They consist of original members Don Henley (vocals, drums, percussion), Randy Meisner (vocals, bass) and Glenn Frey (vocals, guitar) as well as guitarists Don Felder and Joe Walsh. The title track opens with some sweet, slow guitars that sound pretty nice together. Meisner's bass is solid as well as Henley sings lead vocals on this song. His voice sounds pretty good I must admit as he lightly sings along. The chorus is pretty catchy and has the first cool guitar bits of the song which continue into the second verse. It's a very smoothly done song that seems to embody the breeziness of California as Walsh and Felder both play some cool lead guitar. The last two minutes are one big guitar solo with Felder and Walsh slowly battling each other. They both play some pretty sweet stuff as their great guitar continues all the way until the song slowly fades to a close. It's a must-have song that is pretty cool, but I'm just not a big fan of the rest of their stuff.
