September 20, 1976 - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
About a month since my last release and 9 months since "T.N.T.", AC/DC released their third album "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" on September 20, 1976, of which I have two songs: the title track and "Big Balls". AC/DC were starting to gain success in Europe but still weren't popular in the U.S. yet as they make another album of classic rock and roll music. The title track "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" kicks off with a simple but effective riff. The first note sounds really similar to "T.N.T." as already these guys are showing that they have their distinct sound. Bon Scott's singing is pretty good and the lyrics to this song are all about how you can go see good old Bon with any of your messy problems and he'll take care of them for you, and at a reasonable price! It's not a very flashy verse and chorus but it's solid and Angus Young takes off for a guitar solo. He's really shredding it on this one as he plays a fantastic solo! They jam out one last verse and chorus and Scott lets out a nice yell at the end of the song. The solo was very nice indeed! The only other song I have is called "Big Balls" and the first time I heard this I was in the car with my Dad and as a young kid I couldn't believe that these dirty lyrics were on the radio! All the lyrics in this song are meant to sound very naughty when in fact the entire song is about ballroom dancing and going to the ball. They do a really great job with the double entendres though as Scott's vocals go soft and high at all the right moments. The song is carried by another pretty basic rock riff but it gets the job done as Scott is the one in the spotlight. It's a very communal song as everyone is invited to sing along and it's pretty fun! These two songs were pretty solid, but the rest is more of the same as I think these guys are still fairly average.
