September 10, 1975 - Kiss and Rock And Roll All Nite
Just 5 days since my last release another new band joins my library when glam rock band Kiss released their first live album "Alive!" on September 10, 1975, of which I have only one song, the song that would become the anthem for all that is Kiss, "Rock And Roll All Nite". But who are Kiss? They are a four-piece glam rock band from New York City consisting of Gene Simmons (bass, vocals), Paul Stanley (rhythm guitar, vocals), Ace Frehley (lead guitar) and Peter Criss (drums). I must say, I am NOT a fan of Kiss. I believe them to be very overhyped, overplayed, and just downright not that good! Any band that focuses on their looks more than their music is not what I'm looking for. However simple and formulaic their songs may be, it's tough for any rock fan to not sing along to this song that embodies the rock and roll lifestyle. Frehley leads the way with a decent guitar riff and Simmons sings lead vocals on this song that's all about partying, rockin' out and enjoying yourself. The simple, repeated lyrics in the chorus could be echoed back by anyone as the crowd takes over, singing them full force. Frehley plays a pretty sweet guitar solo that isn't on the studio version of this song, and this solo is why I have this live version. It's the only part of the song with some more complex stuff to it, but for all my harping and razzing, I do enjoy this song. Kiss definitely made their mark and from here on would become international superstars.
