December 1, 1975 - AC/DC and T.N.T.
11 days after my last album, my final release of the year came out on December 1, 1975 when a new band named AC/DC joins my library with the release of their second album "T.N.T.". I have only the title track off this album as I am not a big AC/DC fan but I do like some of their songs and this is one of them. But who are AC/DC? They are a 5-piece rock and roll band from Sydney, Australia consisting of guitarists and brothers Angus (lead guitar) and Malcolm Young (rhythm guitar), lead singer Bon Scott, bassist Mark Evans and drummer Phil Rudd. The title track starts with a catchy guitar riff and some "Oi! Oi!" Aussie-style chanting. Scott's voice is very distinctive and sounds pretty good as he sings the verses. The chorus has the band sing the title while Scott hits some high notes and it's an easy to remember and sing-along chorus. Angus plays a short guitar solo that sounds pretty good then they move into a section where the audience is meant to chant along. After one final chorus they move to a classic rock and roll finish as everybody speeds up and starts going to town on their instruments. After a bit of fun they bring it to a close and it's not surprising at all that these guys would become immensely popular. This marks the end of 1975, and so begins the year-end wrap-up! 13 albums this year is the same number as last year as the amazing music continues in droves!
Favourite song of the year: As always it's difficult to pick just one song when there are so many great ones out there. This year though the best song of the year belongs to Queen with "Bohemian Rhapsody". It's such an amazing song that gives you chills every time it starts no matter how many times you've heard it. It's the clear winner for me.
Top 5 Albums of the year:
1. Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
2. Minstrel In The Gallery by Jethro Tull
3. Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
4. Caress Of Steel by Rush
5. A Night At The Opera by Queen
The top 3 is filled with familiar faces but Rush has made it two years in a row now and Queen cracks the top 5 with their best effort yet. "Wish You Were Here" is one hell of an album though as I think every song on it is really freakin' good. 1975 had lots of great music and of course several new bands. I'm sure both trends will continue as we move on to 1976!
