December 5, 1973 - Band On The Run and Band On The Run

Just four days after my last release, and later the same year as they made the "Live And Let Die" theme, Wings released their third studio album "Band On The Run" on December 5, 1973, of which I have only the title track. Since this summer, guitarist Henry McCullough and drummer Denny Seiwell both left the band, so Wings is down to just a 3-piece on this album, leaving just Denny Laine, and Paul and Linda McCartney. Paul takes over all the drumming duties on this album in addition to his bass, lead vocals and guitar work. That's a lot of weight to carry! The song starts off with some cool guitar licks and Linda playing some cool keyboards. McCartney sings slow in this opening part, but it shifts into a more rock-style riff. The rest of the song is led by some catchy acoustic guitar, and McCartney's singing is pretty good. Lots of cool guitar in this bit, and this is definitely a cool song and no surprise it was a successful single. This is the last song I have by Wings though, but not the last of the year!
