November 1973 - April Wine and Weeping Widow

In November of 1973, another new band joins the library when Canadian rockers April Wine released their third album, "Electric Jewels". I only have one song by these guys and am not a big fan of theirs, but I do like the hit single "Weeping Widow" which was the first song on the album. But who are April Wine? They began as a 4-piece rock band from Waverley, Nova Scotia but the only remaining original member on this album is lead singer and guitarist Myles Goodwyn. Joining him are bassist Jim Clench, guitarist Gary Moffet and drummer Jerry Mercer, and it's actually Clench who sings lead vocals on "Weeping Widow". It starts with a catchy light guitar riff, with a much cooler, heavier electric guitar overtop. Clench's singing is pretty good and he does his best Robert Plant impression, hitting some high notes. There's a decent little drum solo by Mercer, but it's definitely the lead guitar that makes the song with a few nice solos! That's it for these guys though. It won't be long until the next release though!
