June 1, 1973 - Wings and Live And Let Die
On the 1st of June, 1973, the James Bond film "Live And Let Die" was released. As always, there was a title track that played during the opening credits and for the first time a rock band was used to do the Bond theme when Paul McCartney's solo project Wings recorded "Live And Let Die". But who are Wings? They were a 4-piece rock band formed in London, England with Paul on lead vocals and playing several instruments, his wife Linda McCartney on keyboards, Denny Seiwell on drums and Denny Laine on guitar. By this time they added a fifth member, lead guitarist Henry McCullough and it's this five-piece that performs on this song. McCartney reunites with producer George Martin, who did the orchestral arrangements in this song. McCartney plays piano on this one, and he does a fantastic job! The orchestra sounds wonderful as well and so does some cool conga-drumming. Beautiful violin brings it back to the slow opening, then we speed it up again for the grand finish! It's certainly a cool song, and probably the best Bond theme as well! It's another "month" until my next release, but that day yields two albums, I can't wait!
