August 1973 - The Allman Brothers Band and Ramblin' Man

In August of 1973, The Allman Brothers Band released the only song I have by them "Ramblin' Man" off their fourth album "Brothers And Sisters". But who are The Allman Brothers Band? They began as a 6-piece rock band from Jacksonville, Florida but had some unfortunate circumstances in their history. Co-founder Duane Allman died of a motorcycle accident in 1971 and bassist Berry Oakley would die the same way during the recording of this album. That's crazy! Oakley only features on two songs, but one of them is "Ramblin Man". The line-up for this record included Gregg Allman (lead vocals, organ), Dickey Betts (lead guitar), Lamar Williams (bass), Chuck Leavell (piano), Butch Trucks (drums) and Jai Johanny Johanson (congas, percussion). The song is led by some cool guitar by Betts and what a catchy riff it is! The guitar and singing sound great together and the piano is everywhere sounding great as well. First guitar solo is pretty good but the second one is way better. Lots of great stuff in this extended part that goes on until the end of the song. A very catchy song that is definitely a worthy addition to the library.
