November 14, 1969 - David Bowie and Space Oddity

On November 14, 1969 musician David Bowie released his second album, "David Bowie" (which was also the name of his first album). But who is David Bowie? He was born in London, England and would become one of the most popular icons in music ever. Despite his immense popularity, I am not a big Bowie fan. I have only one song by him in my whole library, but it is a great song that is impossible not to sing along to. It's called "Space Oddity", a play on "2001: A Space Odyssey", the movie that inspired Bowie to write the song. It's about Major Tom, an astronaut who is launched into space. Bowie sings and plays acoustic guitar as well as the Stylophone, which is heard during the first verse. Bowie sings two different tracks that combine very well and there are some beautiful strings as well. I like the guitar after Bowie sings "planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do" and this is just a great song period. Tune in in "a couple weeks" for my last release of the year!
