May 17, 1969 - The Who and Pinball Wizard

On May 17, 1969, The Who released their fourth album, the rock opera "Tommy" about a "deaf, dumb and blind" boy. But who exactly are The Who? They were an extremely influential four-piece rock band formed in London, England in 1964. The members are lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. Although they are very successful, I am admittedly not their biggest fan and only have one song off of this double album, titled "Pinball Wizard". It's about how despite being deaf and blind, Tommy is amazing at pinball and apparently "plays by sense of smell". It's a silly song idea, but it is a cool song with some tight acoustic guitar from Townshend driving the song. The fast acoustic and slower electric guitar sounds good and this is definitely a cool tune. Tune in "next month" for my second full album of 1969, a film soundtrack!
